How Long Should a Flag Last?
How Our Flags are Constructed
What is Nylon Flag Fabric?
Nylon is a superior nylon flag fabric which is used in all of our nylon flags. Our nylon flags feature SolarMax nylon by DuPont which is tough, durable, long lasting and specifically designed for active outdoor use. SolarMax fabrics exhibit tremendous strength retention under UV exposure and are highly resistant to UV fading. A nylon flag will fly in the slightest breeze and is a lighter weight fabric than our PolyMax flags which are ideal for windy conditions but require more wind to fly.
In addition to being a superior outdoor flag, our nylon flags have a smooth and lustrous quality which makes this flag an exceptional indoor ceremonial flag- SolarMax is a registered trademark of INVISTA.
PolyMax 2-ply polyester blend fabric is extremely strong and durable- This flag fabric resembles cotton in appearance but is more durable than cotton Because the fabric is heavier than nylon, it requires more wind to fly than our nylon flags- It perfect for windy conditions or for a flag that is flown 24/7- It is resistant to most chemicals as well as mildew and abrasion resistant. PonMax flags are the most durable flags available. The strength of this fabric increases the life of the flag making it the most superior flag fabric in today’s marketplace. PolyMax is available in American, Military and State Flags.
Cotton Flags use traditional heavyweight 2×2 ply mercerized cotton bunting- The extra rugged weave actually exceeds U.S-Government specifications- The most modern dyeing techniques ensure brilliant colors. Flags feature 1 1/2” heavy-duty, bright white cotton polyester blend army duck header with solid brass #2 rolled rimmed, tooth washer grommets. These American cotton flags have sewn stripes and embroidered stars. Cotton American Flags, size 5’x9 1/2′ are often used for military burial rites. Cotton flags are not recommended for prolonged outdoor use. Often cotton flags are used for indoor display or as a special keepsake flag. We recommend our nylon or Polymax fabric flags for outdoor use.
SolarMax Nylon is a tough. durable, long lasting nylon specifically designed for active outdoor use. SolarMax fabrics exhibit tremendous strength retention under UV exposure as well as world-class tensile and tear strength. Because of its strength, SolarMax fabrics will increase overall performance. SolarMax fabrics are highly resistant to UV fading, allowing the use of deeper, brighter colors that will last over time. In addition, SolarMax fabrics offer better washfastness and lightfastness than other nylons of similar fabric construction. SolarMax is a registered trademark of INVISTA.
Aniline-Dye Process is the process used on our Military, State, Civilian Service and International Flags. The aniline dye process duplicates complex emblems with exacting accuracy in brilliant, fast colors. The flags are dyed rather than printed so that the emblem/design and flag colors permeate the fabric.
There is no definite answer to this question. How long a flag will last depends on the weather, its location, airborne contamination and how often you fly your flag. Remember, your flag is a piece of cloth that works very, very hard. Throughout its lifetime your flag shakes, trembles, drapes, snaps, chafes, bakes, freezes, ripples, flutters, furls, twists, flaps, strains, flies, unfurls and hangs! Is it any wonder that a flag that flies continuously needs replacing two or three times a year? Wind, water, sun and carelessness are the major enemies of a flag- No one can control the weather but you can take some important steps to lengthen the life of your flag. Occasionally washing your flag in warm detergent water will prevent pollutants and dirt from weakening the fabric. Always let your flag dry thoroughly before storing it to prevent mildew or color transfer. At the first sign of fraying, have your flag repaired before further damage is done. Always keep your flagpole clean as possible and move your pole if your flag does not have adequate room to fly unobstructed.
Our Flags are Manufactured by a Leading Flag Manufacturer, a trusted name in flags for over 100 Years.
